Albert Milner

Owner, Trainer

Al has an extensive background in handling and training dogs. From 1981 to 1985 he was the Training Director for the West Chester Kennel Club near Philadelphia. In 1986, he decided it was time to build his own facility for training and boarding, and Milnerhaus Kennels was born. He has conducted numerous seminars on tracking, obedience, and protection training around the country.

Al has worked in many capacities for USA, the United Schutzhund Clubs of America, including as a Licensed Judge for over 10 years. He had the honor of judging the USA Nationals in 1997 (St. Louis, MO) and 1998 (Denver, CO).

In addition to serving as a Judge, Al also worked as a helper in several World Qualifier and National Championship events. (A helper is the person who actually takes the bite from the dog during the evaluation.) He has also served as the Sieger Show helper in Washington, D.C., and as Regional Championship helper for the Northeast Region.

Several of Northeast PA’s K-9 units have been provided and trained by Al, including Dunmore Police Dog “Cash”, Lackawanna Country Drug Dogs “Sarge” and “Hammer”, and Carbondale Police Department’s K-9 “Kuffs”.

Currently, in addition to running the kennel and training classes, Al performs as the Training Director for Underwood Schutzhund Club. He has trained 5 of his own dogs to Schutzhund titles, and helped numerous other handlers achieve the same titles.

Erika Kurtz, CVT

Trainer

Erika has been training dogs for 11 years, taking 2 of her dogs to Schutzhund titles. (One being a Jack Russell Terrier!) In addition to obedience and protection training, Erika has also trained dogs for the AKC’s Canine Good Citizen program, the American Temperament Test Society, and search and rescue work. She has also trained several dogs as Registered Therapy Dogs for Therapy Dogs International, Inc.

A Certified Veterinary Technician for the state of Pennsylvania, Erika is currently practicing at the Finch Hill Veterinary Clinic in Greenfield Twp, PA in addition to her responsibilities at Milnerhaus. She is also a Certified Evaluator for the Canine Good Citizen Test.

Erika comes from a strong theatrical background and is frequently called upon to train one of her dogs new tricks for live performances. She recently added film to her list of credits and served as Animal Supervisor for the movie The Trouble With Cali.

Marie Brennan

Groomer

Marie has been working as a professional groomer for 11 years, 10 of those years in association with Milnerhaus Kennels. She also spent a year in San Diego, CA grooming for the popular Village Pets salon before returning back home to PA.

A graduate of the New York School of Dog Grooming in New York City, Marie also holds an AS in Animal Management from Harcum College.
